Software Install Instructions
There are two separate methods for installation of the Compaction Mapping System software.
The first method works great if your device is connected to a desktop or laptop computer with ActiveSync 4.0 or greater installed.
If you wish to install through your desktop or laptop computer, but do not have ActiveSync installed, ActiveSync can be installed from this website, from the "Other Software" link on the link bar above.
Click here if you do NOT have ActiveSync installed and wish to install the Mobile Device software using that method.
Procedure for installing through ActiveSync
We have broken it down into steps for installation.
Step 1: Install the Compact Framework
Step 2: Install the Compaction Mapping System Software.
Completing these 2 installations has installed the required software on your Mobile Device.
Procedure For Manual Installation
For manual installation there are CAB files on this website.
CAB files are the self-extracting software installation routines for Mobile Devices.
While the install file for the Compaction Mapping System is the same for all devices, there are different install packages for different devices and operating systems.
The procedure for manual installation is to:
- Copy the proper .NET CAB file for your device, and the CMS Install CAB file to an SD or Compact Flash card that can be read by your device. When you install using ActiveSync, the proper CAB file is selected automatically. Here you have to select the proper files.
To find the version of the operating system click “Start”, “Settings” and then go to this “System” tab and click “About”.

Information about your operating system will be displayed in a window like the one above.
Files to Place on Card for Pocket PC 2003 Version 4.2 and above
Files to Place on Card for Windows Mobile 5
Files to Place on Card for Windows CE 5
- Insert the card in your device, then using File Explorer on the Mobile Device browse to those files and click on each of them to run the install process. In this case we placed the CAB files in a folder named "CMSInstallPPC2003".
- By simply clicking on the cab files you will start the installation procedure, click on the file that starts with “NETCF” first, to install the Microsoft.Net Framework.

The screen shot above shows a screen as the system is installing the Microsoft .Net Compact Framework. If at the end of this procedure a message appears other than a message indicating that the software installed correctly, click Cancel.
If you receive a message that indicates that the version of the Compact Framework that you are installing is not correct for your device, cancel the installation. It is very important to not force an incorrect version of the .Net Framework to install on a device. Doing so may require a hard reset of the system in order to make it function again.
